I’m 26 and addicted to tanning – trolls say I look 50 but I don’t care because it makes me feel confident

A woman has defended her tanning addiction by insisting it boosts her confidence – despite online trolls claiming she looks 50.

Camilla Sørensen, a 26-year-old influencer from Denmark, has candidly shared her addiction to tanning, despite facing harsh criticism from social media trolls who claim her bronzed appearance makes her look older than her age.

Sørensen, who boasts 29,000 followers on her TikTok page, @camilla_sorensen1998, frequently uploads content highlighting her deep brown skin tone, and regularly boasts of her ability to tan quickly while sharing her extensive tanning routine.

In one video, captioned “When they say I’m too brown,” she hits back at trolls and mimes lyrics to Playboi Carti’s Punk Monk, in which he raps: ‘Don’t talk to me.’

Another video highlights the content creator’s ability to develop a tan quickly, as she adds a caption that reads: ‘When people tan all summer to get the tan I got in 2 days.’

Sørensen’s outdoor tanning regimen, detailed in a list uploaded in another video, includes set intervals of sun exposure followed by breaks.

In the list, she reveals she tans the front of her body for 20 minutes, then the back for another 20, and continues alternating with additional 15-minute sessions.

Her routine also includes dips in the pool or spritzes of salt water, before resuming her tanning session by laying on her back and front for 15 minutes each, and repeating the alternation for a further 14 to 20 minutes.

Alarmingly, she adds ‘REPEAT!’ at the end of the list, meaning in one sitting she tans her body in the searing heat for up to four hours.

In one video, a troll cruelly taunts the influencer by stating, ‘You look great for 53,’ while in another clip, she dances with her 40-year-old father – who is also heavily tanned – prompting users to comment that they look the same age.

One person wrote, ‘They look the same age!’ while another said, ‘You look so old I would’ve thought u were dating.’

In a candid clip, the influencer revealed her tanned appearance fuels her confidence, as she mimes to along to a viral song by Princess Chelsea that contains the lyrics: ‘It’s just a cigarette and it cannot be that bad.’

Despite her enthusiasm, Sørensen’s extreme tanning habits have alarmed many of her followers, who warn her of the risks of skin cancer and damage.

One person wrote, ‘You have aged like 30 years,’ while another asked, ‘Are you seriously 24?’

A third commented, ‘You look soooo much better without the aggressive tan,’ as a fellow critic added, ‘Oh lord the aging.’

One individual warned, ‘Be careful of getting leather skin,’ while another said, ‘This just reminded me to reapply my sunscreen.’

Another social media user commented, ‘Enjoy aging like a banana, I guess,’ while a horrified individual wrote, ‘The fake tan the wrinkles oh god.’

Finally, someone chimed: ‘It’s obvious she gets melanin injections. There is NO excuse as to why a euro is darker than me. A blonde haired blue eyes one at that.’

Health experts warn of the dangers associated with her tanning practices. According to the NHS, frequent exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun or sunbeds increases the risk of developing both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.

Those exposed to UV rays before the age of 25 are at even higher risk later in life.
